CORBULA EARRINGS: Handcrafted Sa Corbula workmanship in 18-carat gold (750/000).

Sa Corbula: history and meaning of the Sardinian basket. In Sardinian homes, until about half a century ago, everything was made strictly by hand. Diligent and precise, Sardinian women were the artisan artists of personalised baskets, woven and embroidered with great love and care, created in countless shapes and shades. Sa Corbula was a large, handleless basket with a conical shape. In Sardinia, corbule were an essential part of the bridal trousseau, as they were fundamental in the preparation of ritual breads and used to measure foodstuffs.

The dowry consisted of three baskets and three corbule, named from the largest to the smallest: sa crobe manna, sa crobe, and sa crobischedda. The shape of the corbula recalls fertility and prosperity—qualities of a woman as a giver of life. The basket represents the feminine role of containing and sustaining life, of protecting and nourishing.
Corbula diameter: 8 mm
